Støtvig Hotel acquired by new owners aiming to further develop Norway’s most attractive beach hotel

The modern destination hotel, Støtvig Hotel in Larkollen, has been acquired by a new group of Norwegian investors with strong ties to the area. The hotel, widely regarded as one of Norway’s finest beachside retreats, has been sold for approximately NOK 500 million. The seller is Stig Fische and his family, who are behind the hotel’s success story and development.

A hotel of exceptional quality
Støtvig Hotel is beautifully situated along the Oslofjord in the idyllic town of Larkollen, just under 50 minutes south of Oslo. The area is highly regarded by visitors and offers access to one of Norway’s top golf courses, scenic surroundings, and charming local farms and food producers.

The investor group acquiring the Støtvig Group, including the operating company, includes the Varner family, Harald Moræus-Hanssen, Jarle Norman-Hansen, Sigurd E. Thorvildsen, and Bård Bjølgerud.

"Støtvig Hotel is one-of-a-kind in the Norwegian hotel market, and we are very pleased with the acquisition. We see great potential in further developing both the property and the guest experience, together with the hotel’s fantastic team. Our ambition is to make Støtvig Norway’s leading hotel and all-in-one destination. Its unique location and wide range of facilities give it a lasting competitive advantage. Stig Fische has done an exceptional job building Støtvig into what it is today, and with long-term owners in place, everything is set to take the hotel to the next level," says Bård Bjølgerud, Chairman of the investor group.

Originally reopened in 2013 with a design inspired by classic New England architecture, the hotel offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. As a full-service hotel, Støtvig features 91 rooms, a high-comfort private villa, three restaurants, and three bars offering exceptional culinary experiences, with space for up to 400 guests. The hotel also includes modern conference facilities and a popular spa and wellness area of more than 1,000 square meters, with indoor and outdoor pools and saunas.

Located right on the waterfront with panoramic views of the Oslofjord, the property features 200 meters of shoreline, a marina with 75 boats, and a 2,000 sqm pier area. Its impressive wine cellar and indoor bowling alley enhances the overall appeal.

The transaction includes both the hotel operations and the property itself, including Villa Støtvig. It also comes with a significant land bank and nearly 20,000 sqm of development potential. In the short term, a 1,500 sqm extension is planned, including new hotel rooms and expanded conference facilities to make Støtvig even more complete.

Strong Market Position
In 2024, the hotel is expected to generate over NOK 130 million in revenue with a 71% occupancy rate. Støtvig operates independently without any chain affiliation and employs over 100 dedicated staff members. It is Eco-Lighthouse certified and has a strong sustainability profile, including partnerships with local producers and a focus on short-travelled food. With a clear emphasis on quality, the hotel has cemented its position as one of Norway’s most desirable destination hotels, serving leisure guests, conferences, events, and weddings.

“We are proud of what we’ve built at Støtvig, and I’m glad the new owners want to continue to invest in the hotel. We share the same vision and values, and it means a lot to have a group that understands and respects the history, the people, and the guest experience. We look forward to continuing the development of Støtvig Hotel – to the delight of both current and future guests,” says Nina Nilsen, General Manager at Støtvig Hotel.

“After owning and running Støtvig Hotel for nearly 12 years, it is naturally with a sense of sadness that I now pass it on to new owners, but I know it’s for the best. The timing is right: I’m approaching 80, the hotel is at its peak, and we’ve found financially strong and passionate new owners. I simply want to thank and pay tribute to the hundreds of colleagues and loyal guests who have helped build Støtvig into what it is today, a solid foundation for further development,” says seller Stig Fische.
